Baptism at South Orlando Baptist Church

Baptism Guide
We are so excited about your decision to be baptized! Baptism is a meaningful and important step in your faith journey, and we are honored to celebrate this moment with you.

What Is Baptism?
Baptism is your public profession of faith in Jesus Christ. It shows the church and the world that you are a Christian and identifies you with Christ and with His church. It is a powerful declaration of your new life in Him!

Scheduling Your Baptism
  • Choose a date that works best for your family and friends to attend in person or watch live online.
  • Be sure to select a date that allows your loved ones to celebrate with you.

What to Expect on Baptism Day:

Arrival Time
  • Please arrive no later than 10:45 AM backstage to prepare for your baptism. Both of the side hallways of the main sanctuary will lead you to the backstage area.
  • Our Baptism Team (Gerry Miles and Wendy Letchworth)  will be on hand to assist you with any needs you may have.
  • Our Pastor will go over some brief information from the Bible about Baptism, and he will also provide some personal instructions for your Baptism, such as: how to safely enter and exit the baptistry, how to stand in the baptistry,  what will happen when you are being baptized, and how you will go below the water safely and resurface.

What to Wear
  • Wear swim trunks or shorts. Some women have chosen to wear a one-piece swimsuit under a pair of shorts.
  • You will be given a church t-shirt to wear during your baptism (yours to keep).

Changing Areas
  • There are:
    • 6 baptism changing rooms backstage. You will be assigned a room and can choose to use one of the bathrooms to change if you desire.
    • 2 bathrooms available

What to Bring
  • Bring a change of clothes to wear after your baptism for the church service.
During & After the Service
  • You can bring a hair dryer if you need it and use any of the bathrooms backstage to dry your hair.
  • We have towels available, so you will not need to bring your own towels.
  • You will be baptized at a scheduled time during the service, usually after a few songs are sung, as a public declaration of your faith.
  • At the end of the service, you will receive your baptism certificate.

Preparation Steps
Please complete the baptism prep form below, which includes:
  • Your t-shirt size (a church shirt will be provided for you to keep)
  • Your requested baptism date
  • The name to be printed on your baptism certificate
  • Your choice to do a Testimony Video or not.
